Council of forest

nonhuman nonsense

The Council of Forest is an interactive AI installation that serves as a “thing” for the various voices of the forest.

By giving a voice to beings such as the reindeer, the lichen, the river, and the wind turbine, the work uses AI to explore ethical issues surrounding the “green transition” in Sápmi. The work is a speculative design experiment that weaves together Indigenous perspectives and ecological science with data from the forest industry to challenge the notion of humans as the sole decision-makers. Whose voice carries the most weight when global climate goals clash with local ecosystems and cultural rights?

Biography

Nonhuman Nonsense, a research-driven art and design collective working in the realm of social dreaming and world-making. Our projects engage with the nonhuman: animals, objects, ecology, technology, and the spectres between and beyond categories.

We frequently collaborate with other beings, including scientists, researchers and friends but at the core consist of 3 people – Leo Fidjeland, Linnea Våglund, and Filips Staņislavskis, based between Amsterdam and Stockholm.
