BODENSKOLAN TAKES IT’S PLACE – In public and in private
In 2025, Havremagasinet will celebrate 15 years as an art gallery. Over the years, an important part of its activities has been to highlight local art history – our cultural heritage – with the art group known as Bodenskolan. Fourteen artists from the 1950s onwards came to play an important role, not only for Boden but for the entire county’s art scene.
In addition to displaying a large amount of “new” art by the group, parts of the public artworks created by several of the Boden School artists are also highlighted.
The only woman in the group, June Montana, receives special attention. She was a unifying force in the 1950s and 1960s, a teacher and inspiration to many of the inquisitive and aspiring artists in the “Bodenskolan.” She remained active as an artist until her death in 2008 at the age of 93.
Artists: Sven Bohman, Jean Carlbrand, Gösta Hedström, Ingvar Jigrud, Jan Olof Marner, Bertil Linne, June Montana, Gösta Näsvall, Hjalmar Rönnbäck, Stig Sandberg, John Thorgren, Rune Wanler, Stig Winnerskog, Bror Zackrisson. Curated by Ingela Ögren Weinmar.
ATTEMPTS AT TRANSLATION – Umeå Academy of Fine Arts
Trees are planted in the hope that they will grow. Could art-making carry the same intention?
Does the act of making art, no matter how tragic or bleak the world may seem, hold some inherent faith in the future? Perhaps not a conscious faith, nor necessarily a positive one. But one that simply exists, determined to remain, even in moments of doubt.
For some reason, we create and we always have. Tentatively, fumbling, we gaze toward the future. With a curious eye, the students work here and now.
In the exhibition Trevande tolkar (Attempts at translation), the third-year BA students from Umeå Academy of Fine Arts have worked with Havremagasinet’s annual theme: Futures.
For nearly three years, they have followed each other’s development, witnessing how their artistic practices have grown and unfolded
Artists: Adam Engström, Amanda Åhlund, Arvid Snidare, Evelina Lindqvist Hedlund, Isabelle Nilsson, Julia Åberg, Karin Rapp, Linnéa Romeling, Lovisa Fahlgren, Lulu Staaf, My Maanmies, Sandra Lundh, Sebastian Blind, Stefanie Almqvist, Vilgot Björkman
OBSERVATION OF CHANGE
Observation of Change is a Nordic based art project, in collaboration with a nature restoration project ”Observation – An observation of change” at the Junkerdal area in Saltdal municipality, Norway.
This art-science exhibition on forest restoration highlights the growing recognition that collaboration between the arts and sciences is vital for addressing complex environmental, social, and cultural challenges. By bringing together creative and scientific perspectives, this exhibition presents narratives that highlights different aspects on forest restoration. Through aesthetic expression and imaginative language, artists aim to foster empathy and deeper understanding – essential elements in supporting ecological restoration and the conservation of forest ecosystems.
Institutional partners of the project include the Adde Zetterquist Art Gallery, Nordland National Park Centre, Norwegian Institute of Nature Research (NINA), Norwegian University of Life Sciences, University of Lapland, Nord University, and the Arctic Sustainable Arts and Design network.
Artists: Birgitta Linhart, Esa Pekka Isomursu, Johannes Pekonen, Johan Rova, Karin Stoll, Laila Ingvaldsen, Maria Huhmarniemi, Mette Gårdvik, Tommi Yläjoki, Wenche Sørmo. Curated by Anja Kath Lande
