DYING TEXTILES WITH PLANTS AND NATURAL PIGMENTS

In this course, you’ll take an experimental approach to natural dyeing using the bundle dyeing technique. You’ll learn how to prepare the fabric and gather your own dye materials. Then, together, we’ll dye the fabric using the materials you’ve gathered as well as other natural pigments. The course is spread over two days.

FrIDAY JUNE 12 4-6 PM

INTRODUCTION

We’ll walk you through the natural dyeing process and prepare the materials together; at the end of the day, you’ll receive a small assignment to prepare for the next session.

SUNDAY JUNE 14 1-4 PM

COLORING

We start the day with gathering plants from the surrounding area and then make bouquets that we will dye.

THE COURSE IS PART OF WARP & THREAD and is led by Ida Isak Westerberg, a textile artist trained at Handarbetets vänner who works with weaving and dyeing techniques in her practice.
