Elisabeth Moritz explores her family’s German past and issues of guilt through large prints of family photos from the first half of the 20th century. Focusing on the interwar period and World War II, she depicts how societal changes – from democracy to populism and dictatorship, from peace to war – are reflected in the family.
By cutting the photographs with a scalpel, she creates a dialog between the historical images and her own personal search.
Elisabeth Moritz (b. 1956 in Lund, Sweden) is based in Malmö and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris.
