The 21st of December is the shortest day of the year. It’s also the day when we indulge in short films of all kinds! We offer popcorn and saft to all participants and promise a cozy afternoon in the winter darkness with a fantastic selection of short films!

A lifeless female body is found wrapped in plastic in the woods. Who is she, and how did she end up there? Hampus and Arvida Byström’s debut film is an evocative Nordic noir that poses unconventional questions about a woman’s role in a solitary man’s sexual desires.

Doris and Bettan, an apparently ordinary elderly couple, enjoy the sun on a beach in Spain. Topless, with cigarettes in their mouths, sipping cocktails. After complaints, the owner of the hotel nearby wants to remove the ladies, but he will soon regret it.

I think of silences when I think of you is a lyrical portrait of a woman’s engagement in Ghana and impending migration at the end of the 1990s. The film follows a woman navigating the world in relation to silence, with desires and dreams of Europe as a backdrop.

Madden is a story about relating to one’s flock. About duty versus longing. About high heels in cow dung and frightened animal bodies thundering across a landscape in Västergötland. About a forest of tall tree trunks between our protagonist and the world outside. We live in a time where self-fulfillment, individualism, and freedom clash hard against the tradition of inheritance and the collectivity that life on a farm can entail.

A short documentary that invites you on a journey tracing an astronaut’s heart from Earth to space. Its pace, its dangers, and its strength are narrated by the astronaut’s doctor, flight surgeon Brigitte Godard. It’s a romantic journey of a cardiovascular system into space.

In the 30s, a lost village in South America wishes to perpetuate its strange traditions… The mayor has published an ad in the region: “Seeks corpse to enlarge Miracasas.” Freshly murdered, Ernesto is the lucky one and participates involuntarily in his carnival-like burial. The gathered villagers celebrate the event with passion, eagerly awaiting the life brought by death.

On a hot August afternoon, the family gathered at the table remembers uncle Botão: the Colonial War, emigration to France, where he lived and worked for thirty years as a garbage man. Memories of each are intertwined to tell the story of a man who lived a hard life through humor and fantasy, like when he returned to Belmonte in a van full of trash, turned into a real treasure.

The two sisters travel across the Realm of Clouds, searching for the Big Tree. Their journey will be full of setbacks, self-sacrifices, sadness, yet filled with joy. As they get closer to their destination, they also become closer to themselves. The film portrays the multidimensional dynamics and growth of an emotional bond within a sisterhood’s relationship.
