GROW TOGETHER

GARDENING AS A THREE-STEP ROCKET

In 2026, grower and writer Jenny Malmqvist invites you to three sessions featuring lectures, workshops, and guidance in the Havremagasinet Garden. The events are open to anyone interested in cultivation and are organized in collaboration with ABF Norr Boden, which will also be running gardening study circles in the garden.

No advance registration is required for GROW TOGETHER. The lectures and guidance are connected to Havremagasinet’s garden and ABF’s study circles, but everyone — even those not taking part in the circles — is welcome to join, meet other gardening enthusiasts, find inspiration for their own gardens, and gain new knowledge.

ABOUT JENNY MALMQVIST

Jenny Malmqvist is an educator, grower, and writer with a strong commitment to connecting people through cultivation.
Through her company Grow by Jenny, she offers lectures, guidance, and events focusing on environmentally mindful growing.

With a background as a teacher in social studies and Swedish, she brings her experience in learning and leadership into the world of gardening.
Her goal is to inspire more people to grow — and to discover the possibilities of successful cultivation even in colder climates.

STEP 1: MARCH 5, 5:30–8:00 PM

Lecture: Growing Cold Under the Midnight Sun

Location: Café Pampas, Havremagasinet
Tip: Bring a notebook

Do you want to succeed with your garden in a cold climate and harvest delicious produce under the midnight sun?
Welcome to an inspirational lecture for anyone who wants to grow edible plants — from seed to harvest.

Jenny shares simple and non-toxic methods for sowing, transplanting, and fertilizing.
We will go through a sowing calendar for growing zone 6, including recommended vegetable varieties for short growing seasons.
Together, we’ll sow tomato seeds and share gardening dreams and ideas.
All participants will receive a printed PDF of the sowing calendar to take home.

STEP 2: MAY 7, 5:30–8:00 PM

Hands-on Session: Transplanting and Spring Sowing

Location: Havremagasinet’s garden
Tip: Wear practical clothes and gloves

We’ll meet in the shared garden to plant out seedlings and direct-sow seeds for May.
Jenny will demonstrate Bokashi composting – a sustainable way to recycle food waste, even for apartment dwellers.

We’ll discuss mulching, fertilization, and watering, as well as how to make your own liquid fertilizer.
You’ll also get tips on preventing common plant diseases and pests.

STEP 3: SEPTEMBER 3, 5:30–8:00 PM

Lecture: Soil Health and Compost

Location: Café Pampas, Havremagasinet

The soil is the heart of every garden.
In this session, you’ll be introduced to natural methods for building strong and healthy soils.

We’ll talk about green manure plants, raised beds, and the importance of soil life.
Together, we’ll explore Havremagasinet’s compost — or discuss how to build one if it’s not yet in place.
We’ll examine the soil in the raised beds at the end of the growing season and discuss how to improve and enrich it for next year.
